Only time will tell if Tom Taylor's cryptic tweets lead to this, so fans should stay tuned for more details as they come to light. It is the 3rd main installment in the main series and will be released in Early April 2023 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series XS, PC, Steam, & Nintendo Switch. It is being developed by Netherrealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Not to mention the chance to add even more fan-favorite DC characters to Injustice’s roster, which is always a treat. Injustice 3 is an upcoming fighting game in the Injustice series. There is still plenty of storytelling potential for NetherRealm to explore in a third installment (especially if they decide to make the “Superman Wins” alternate ending to Injustice 2 canon after all). Injustice 3 could play around with evil versions of other characters like Batman or Wonder Woman. With DC hinting at big video game announcements from the likes of Rocksteady at its upcoming DC FanDome event next month, the timing for a new Injustice game couldn't be better. So far, the Injustice series is well regarded for its plot and gameplay mechanics, with NetherRealm’s Ed Boon himself believing that it would make a great movie for DC’s shaky cinematic universe in the future. This Injustice 3 tease comes shortly after the original game was offered for free on Steam back in June, as well as developer NetherRealm hinting that they might branch out into other comic book franchises like Marvel at some point. The end of Injustice 2 saw the fallen Superman being locked away in the Phantom Zone (or gaining the mind-control technology of Brainiac in the game’s incredibly dark alternate ending), but now the arrival of a new prequel comic suggests that the story might not be over yet. This causes the Man Of Steel to become a tyrannical dictator out to bring world order through any means necessary, with only a small resistance group led by Batman standing in his way throughout two games and a critically acclaimed tie-in comic series. With such a high quality story mode for Mortal Kombat 11, establishing a strong narrative has become increasingly important for NetherRealm. Originally released back in 2013, Injustice and its follow-up tell the story of an alternate DC Comics timeline in which Superman goes insane after the Joker tricks him into killing Louis Lane and her unborn child, as well as destroying Metropolis. Injustice 3 has been trending ever since NetherRealm is ending its MK11 support, and it seems like this could be the next project for the studio. There are tons of characters that DC fans are begging to show up as newcomers to the acclaimed series. NetherRealm’s dark take on the DC universe was last seen in 2017’s Injustice 2, which continued the previous game’s breakout success and cemented the Mortal Kombat developer’s status as an icon of fighting games. With Injustice 2 in the books and Mortal Kombat 11 possibly being near completion in terms of DLC its to be assumed that the cycle will continue with a possible Injustice 3 release on the horizon. A new Injustice game could be on the horizon, at least if a recent tease regarding a possible prequel comic is anything to go by. Pick up my sci-fi novels Herokiller and Herokiller 2, and read my first series, The Earthborn Trilogy, which is also on audiobook. I am sure Alan Moore is thrilled.įollow me on Twitter, YouTube and Instagram. Past Watchmen, its anyone’s guess who DC might pull into the game, but I know in recent years The Batman Who Laughs is all the rage, so I would not be surprised to see him as a major addition.Īgain, nothing is confirmed, but between Ed Boon being at DC Fandome and this potential tease, the time seems right for an Injustice 3 announcement, and DC’s catalogue seems primed to unleash Watchmen characters into the game. Manhattan will show up, floating around and shooting blue energy blasts like a more traditional fighting game character. And yet this is a video game, and one where we can watch Harley Quinn beat Superman with a mallet and win. Snyder may be done with the Justice League, but both The Flash () (featuring Ben Affleck as Batman) and Wonder Woman 3 remain in active production or development. I understand that this makes no logical sense as he rarely actually “fights” anyone in his storylines, and can just disintegrate anything he wants with a look. Manhattan, not just as a fighter, but probably as the main focal point of the entire storyline. My guess is if that we had a Watchmen-themed Injustice game it would be essentially impossible not to include Dr.
